SUGAR THOUGHTS
BANALITY OF FOOD
The theme of this series is the banality of food in the western world. Food is a necessity to many, but a decadent evidence to others. Captured here are toys designed to resemble food: unrealistic in form and color, sometimes to the point of mere disgust. The images show seemingly perfect settings, composed perfectly symmetric, in saturated color-schemes. Looking at them we are struck by a feeling of discomfort, something is wrong. In our minds fragments of uncomfortable conversations around awkwardly perfect family dinner tables flash by. |
FAKE REALISM
A second theme is the glorification of Royalty, adding an extra dimension of Fake Realism. In these images we can see a life more interesting than ours, at least that would be the general belief. Here the photographer breaks the aforementioned symmetry in favor of an unusual viewpoint, creating an uncanny atmosphere. Despite the temptation of delicacies and sweets, this would be a table one would prefer not to sit at. Some images are straightforward in your face confrontations with the disgusting nature of pre-cooked meals. The shiny plastic in which the food is vacuum packed emphasizes the feeling of disgust: plastic is fantastic in this perfect world we live in. |
